Best Time to Witness the Ndutu Calving Season

The best time to experience the 7-Day Luxury Ndutu Calving Season Safari is from January to February when the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains usually host the highest concentration of wildebeest births. During this period you can witness newborn calves taking their first steps observe large herds grazing across the short-grass plains and search for predators such as lions, cheetahs and hyenas. This season offers exceptional opportunities for wildlife photography and close observation of the Great Wildebeest Migration.

December to March provides a broader window for experiencing the calving season. In December wildebeest herds often begin gathering across the southern plains. January and February generally offer the most exciting calving activity while March can provide further opportunities to observe migrating herds and young calves depending on rainfall and pasture conditions.

Serengeti Travels recommends planning your luxury safari around your preferred travel dates, accommodation availability and wildlife movements. Because the migration follows rainfall and fresh grazing the exact location of the herds can change from year to year. Booking early for January and February can help you secure your preferred luxury lodges or tented camps near Ndutu.

For the strongest chance of witnessing the calving season at its peak choose January or February and allow enough time for guided game drives across Ndutu and the southern Serengeti.
